Inland Conservatory for the Performing Arts (ICPA) provides free arts education for children. Your contributions will help fund for our staff, instructors, the maintenance of The Granada Theatre, and the ability to offer classes tuition-free for our full time students. More funding means more arts for the kids!
With a desire to see full immersion, quality arts education for 2nd - 12th grades, ICPA was founded by Marcus Coleman. It began as a community school in 2010 and in 2013, the private school began with “Be Yourself” quickly becoming the school’s motto. Marcus Coleman grew up in South L.A. Gifted in music he attended the prestigious Colburn School of Performing Arts and Hamilton High School Academy of Music. In college, his fascination with jazz music accelerated, allowing him to obtain many jobs in music, television, film and stage. His extensive resume includes teaching at The Juilliard School, working with Brian McKnight, Mary J. Blige and scoring for a variety of television shows like Steve Harvey’s Big Time and King of Queens.
After moving to the Inland Empire, the need to start a non-profit for the performing arts became a reality for he and his wife, Chelsea Coleman. They have devoted their lives to seeing young people thrive in music, dance and theater. The school opened in it’s permanent home at The Granada Theatre Ontario located in the heart of Downtown Ontario, CA. Since moving here to this location, the arts community in this area has grown even more! There is also an annual arts scholarship competition. Four $500 cash scholarships are awarded to students who participate, which is open to all children in grades 3rd-10th in the Inland Empire.
ICPA students are receiving real-world training, in a fun environment, allowing many students to be booked for performances locally and nationally. Students are regularly winning awards, scholarships, recording and being seen on television, film and in print. In November 2018, ICPA released it’s first CD, Christmas & Jazz, on all major streaming services. It was a passion project for Marcus, featuring his arrangements, student collaborations and guest musicians and artists.
Every student receives education in piano regardless of their major. Theater students study hands-on in The Granada, a commercial grade theater. Dance students study a variety of disciplines including tap, modern, jazz, ballet, pointe and hip hop. Music pedagogy includes studies in traditional, jazz and commercial music.
ICPA has a list of needs from equipment upgrades and theater renovations to paying for more staff for more students. Tax deductible donations are always welcome as any support ICPA receives goes to helping cultivate young artists and tomorrow’s generation of artists. The impact is far reaching and gives lower to middle class students the ability to change the coarse of their lives for the better!
